Going to school/home in groups in each district.

In Australian primary schools, students come to and leave school with their parents or siblings (if the siblings are in the upper grades).

When I see students arriving at school in the morning, I usually see them coming to school with their grandparents, or their parents dropping them off in the car.

Now that COVID has settled down, parents are allowed to enter the school. Unlike in Japan, it is not permitted for students to enter the classroom alone, so they spend time outside the classroom playing with friends until the teacher arrives after the bell.

When the bell rings to start morning session, the children go to line up in the designated area for morning assembly. But the moms are not done chatting are led by the teacher to leave the school. Sometimes some parents pretend to go out and sneak back in to watch the class activities from behind their backs.

Then, it is time to leave school.
About 30 minutes before home time, parents start hanging around in front of the classrooms; until about 5 years ago, about 10 minutes before the end of the day, while classes were still in session, I sensed parents’ eyes on me, but nowadays most of the adults picking up their children are waiting, playing on their smart phones.

Parents come to pick up their students with their younger brothers and sisters, so I become familiar with them before they enter primary school, and I often think, “That kid who wore a nappy is finally in big school. On the other hand, sometimes an older brother or sister who has graduated and is now a high school student comes to pick up their younger sibling, and I often think, “Wow, he’s grown up so much! I personally think this system is great because they can enter the school.
